Cindy Gorman’s Ultimate journey began in college at Texas A&M in 1983 where she first experienced the excitement of mixed Intramural Ultimate sprinting across the muddy Aggie polo fields. She later played with the colorful women’s team, the Aggie UltiMamas, marking the start of a lifelong passion for the sport. 

 

After graduating, Cindy moved to Houston and honed her skills practicing with the men’s team, Elvis From Hell. She worked to grow women’s Ultimate in the region, recruiting new players and forming small but gritty Houston teams like GLUE (Gorgeous Ladies of Ultimate Excellence), who often faced tough competition with only seven players.

Cindy’s talent was recognized beyond Texas as well—she competed with elite out-of-state teams such as Satori (Washington, DC) and Ozone (Atlanta, GA). With Satori, she won Fool’s Fest in 1987 and represented women’s Ultimate on the world stage at the World Championships in Cologne, Germany. Cindy was known for her all-around play, especially her graceful catches and fearless layouts. Dedicated to advancing women’s Ultimate in Texas, she joined forces with players from Austin and across the state to create competitive teams under names such as Limbs Akimbo and the Woo Dolls. Their efforts culminated with the Woo Dolls capturing the women’s masters national championship in 1993, becoming the first Texas Ultimate team to win a national title.

Cindy’s Ultimate journey continued when she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, playing with the powerhouse women’s team Felix who went undefeated in 1994 and won the women’s open national championship. Eager to cultivate both excellence and joy in the sport, Cindy and several Felix teammates founded Home Brood, a team famous for its high-level play, infectious cheers, and commitment to the Spirit of the Game. Home
Brood’s blend of fierce competition, camaraderie, and fun created lasting friendships and set a standard for women’s Ultimate. Cindy now resides in Charlotte, NC with her husband, Gregg Watkins, who she met playing
Ultimate on the UT Intramural fields. Their love of the sport is a family tradition carried on by their two grown children who still chase flying discs – Abby at her local summer league and Theo with the Colorado Apex Pro team.
