I am humbled to be inducted into the Texas Women’s Ultimate Hall of Fame and also grateful to Greg Clark-Founding Member of Texas Hall of Fame who has championed Texas Women’s place within the Texas HoF. To my many teammates and opponents over the years, thanks for the competition, spirit of the game, pick up, co-ed and savage teams, comradery and a million miles of fun.

A few takeaways:
• Born in San Antonio 1962. Elementary thru high school in Houston splitting some time in Austin.
• 1980-1984 BS in Computer Science, minor in Geology, emphasis in Botany from Steven F Austin State University in Nacogdoches.
• Love for throwing the Frisbee began in junior high throwing at Memorial Park, Zilker Park and on the beach at the Texas Gulf Coast.
• Began playing Ultimate in Nacogdoches with the SFA Club Team – Easy Gliders, became entirely hooked watching the Women’s 1982 Nationals competition in Austin.
• First tournament – Centex in Austin 1982.
• Fall 1984 moved to Austin and joined the Supremes, a tight group of women that loved each other and the game of Ultimate in a most unique and incomparable way. Our fierce leader and mentor was Rhonda Williams formerly of BLU (Boston Ladies Ultimate) fame. Our uniforms were cotton t-shirts, skirts, shorts, dresses, often homemade with clever themes freshly imagined prior to tournaments.
• 1986 moved to St. Louis and played on the Swing Sisters. A favorite tournament was the 1987 Ann Arbor Fall Women’s Tournament hosted by the Space Ducks.
• 1987 played Boulder and St. Louis tournaments on a combo team of the Supremes and Florida Shakti Nuns winning the STLO tournament. A show of Southern Region solidarity.
• 1988 moved back to Austin, and played on the women’s teams over the next number of years – Limbs Akimbo, Luna Chicks, Disc Grace, Woo Dolls, Slackers Combo team, etc.
• 1993 member of the Woo Dolls Women’s Masters National Championship team.
• 1997 competed at World Ultimate Club Championships with Rare Air from Colorado in Vancouver, BC.
• 1996-1997-ish Played Co-ed Galveston Beach 4 on 4 Tournaments with my husband Hugh Bender, and Chris Stone and Keith Sandel both of Doublewide fame. Won first and second place respectively.

I reside in Austin with Hugh Bender, my husband of 38 years, and we have 3 grown children born and raised in Austin, and who all have happy lives in Denver, CO, Portland, OR and New Orleans, LA. We all live in cool places to visit, we get together as much as possible and always have a disc with us!
