The Legend of Becky S. Locklear
Her career started in 1983 with pick-up at the NTSU (UNT) Intramural fields. Women’s Ultimate was a club sport, not a collegiate sport at that time. She fell in love with the competition & challenge of the game, along with the heartwarming community where she built lifelong friendships. With limited established Women’s frisbee teams, she traveled across the United States, including Hawai’i, to play with other teams.
She was one of the founding members of the NTSU Women’s Intramural team NTEEZ, a club team offered on campus to recruit players to learn and compete in the sport. Once this competitive team was established around 1986, they traveled and competed in both local and Sectional tournaments. This team has evolved over the years into UNT’s ENVY, who continue to grow the sport for women today.
This led to her taking on the role of Sectional Coordinator for the South Central Region. It was affiliated with UPA Collegiate Divisional Tournaments and followed the Official Rules of the Sport of Ultimate, Ninth Edition.
She remained active as a team member on multiple League teams in the DFW area:
• WEIRD ALICE (early 1990’s)
• Dallas Winter League Co-Captain (early 2000’s)
• Dallas Women’s League (2013)
Her family has carried on her passion for the sport, accomplishing Ultimate success at the Youth, High School, Collegiate, Club, Nationals, Worlds & Premier League levels.
Spirit of The Game
Once Becky discovered Ultimate Frisbee, she wanted to have a place for women, of all skill levels, to come out & experience what it was like to play at your fullest potential as a Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Athlete. The Spirit of the Game reinforced her belief in the integrity of the game led by mutual respect for one another & sportsmanship.
Accomplishments
- 1993 Women’s Masters National Championship with the WOO DOLLS (one of several teammates playing pregnant) winning the first Texas Ultimate National title.
- 1996 Women’s Masters National Championship with SWEAR: Women of the South with a 2nd place finish.
Community Service
For 10 years, she assisted with the UNT Jingle Bell Hell Tournament that requested a toy donation as a player’s entry fee. This Toys for Tots Drive supported local charities in providing bikes and toys for under privileged children at Christmas.
