Women's Texas Hall of Fame By-laws
Mission
The Women’s Texas Ultimate (Frisbee) Hall of Fame (HoF) exists to honor and recognize the following Texas Ultimate Frisbee classifications: Athletes, Teams, Coaches and Contributors. Each of these will be validated for their achievements, contributions to the sport, and how they exhibited the “Spirit of the Game” philosophy.
HOF Founding Members
The Founding Members of the HoF are Sandi Bender (SFASU), Mary Hagler (UT), Cindy Gorman (Texas A&M), Jodi Stauffer (NTSU), Becky Locklear (NTSU).
Initial Committee
The Initial Committee includes the 5 Founding Members and individuals selected from the first 7-year era (1978-1984) who started city and/or college teams in the state of Texas, and/or laid the foundation for such teams, with a high level of competitive play with the “Spirit of the Game”.
In addition to the Founding Members, the following Members have been added to the first 7-year era HoF induction: Alissa Parrish, Caryn Lucido, Laura Selensky, Broward “Beage” Atwater, Kristin Baker, Laura (Selensky) Lawhorn, Rhonda Williams (posthumously) and the Supremes Women’s team award accepted by Suzanne Martinez.
Nomination Criteria
HOF members can qualify by making contributions in different categories including: Founders, Athletes, Teams, Coaches and Contributors.
More specifically, Founders are those that helped evolve and grow the sport in Texas, such as starting and/or fostering team growth. Athletes and/or Players are those that demonstrated a skill level above those around them and demonstrated the “Spirit of the Game” consistently. Teams are those that qualified for the next level, specifically multiple Sectionals, Regionals and/or Nationals competitions. Coaches are those that took their teams to multiple Sectionals, Regionals and/or Nationals level competitions.
Contributors are those that have arranged, assisted with and/or organized major tournaments in Texas, such as CENTEX, Sectionals and Nationals, or who provide and maintain records, such as publications that archive historic records or events of Texas Ultimate. “Look back” nominations may also be accepted for any past era HoF candidates.
In addition to the nomination criteria listed above, other information considered as appropriate: categories of strength, Texas team(s) played for (college, club), out-of-state teams, achievements and contributions, levels competed (Regionals, Nationals, Worlds), team role (handler, coach, tournament organizer), memorable play, demonstration of the “Spirit of the Game” philosophy.
Voting
There shall be one vote per Initial Committee member for new members submitted with a simple majority (50% + 1) for induction. Nominations will be accepted within the 4-month announcement period. Voting shall take place at a designated virtual meeting and can be by voice, show of hands or secret ballot as decided by the Initial Committee.
Induction Process
Inaugural Process: The Founders, having met the above criteria, have initiated the HoF and voted themselves as the initial era members. The following 7-year eras shall be sequentially voted on with one 7-year era per year. Not all classifications require an individual(s) to be inducted per period.
A write-up of an Inductee’s biography is required that covers their experiences, character, key events and how Ultimate Frisbee has impacted their life. It is limited to a 2-page maximum with 1-3 photos and will be published on the HoF website.
Induction ceremonies will be held for each new inductee, which may coincide with a Texas Frisbee event, such as a presentation at a Pro Ultimate Game Half-time. There will be a “splash” of inductees from more recent eras in 2026.
Timeline
Regular meetings shall be held annually. The date and time will be set by the Initial Committee. Special meetings may be called by any Initial Committee member, yet there must be a quorum of 5 attendees. Revisions to the By-Laws can be submitted for review during any meeting and approved with a simple 2/3 majority vote.
HOF Website
Women’s Texas Ultimate Hall of Fame is an unincorporated non-profit organization that will have a presence on-line through the Texas Ultimate Hall of Fame Website. Annual meetings, as well as any unique events will be virtual making for an accessible and interactive process and experience.
Pertinent dates for nominations will be provided there, including any “splash” and/or “look back” inductions from the more recent 2026 era and past eras respectively. The HoF Inductee Nomination Form and timelines for members and non-members to make nominations for each 7-year era will also be accessible and submitted on this website.
